Panic Attacks

HYPNOTHERAPY OFFERS A WAY TO COPE WITH AND RESOLVE THE ISSUES LEADING TO PANIC ATTACKS

A Panic Attack is caused by our body’s defense mechanism which we often refer to as the “fight or flight ” response. The hormonedepressed woman adrenalin is pumped into us in response to a trigger for action. Unfortunately, the mechanism gets us into all sorts of trouble in our modern world because things can move a little too fast for this mechanism to keep up. For example, we experience a near miss while driving and when the danger has gone our hearts start beating frantically, our breathing is all over the place and we feel quite unwell which becomes the panic attack. We now have adrenaline in our body as a response to defend ourselves. Some panic attacks are triggered by a ‘perceived’ threat and some can be random where we consciously do not know what we are responding to.

Experiencing a panic attack is intensely frightening, upsetting and uncomfortable.  Fearing another random or triggered attack can ensure that a cycle is established and causes a heightened state of anxiety.  Hypnotherapy can help you to overcome this cycle and allow you to be free from panic.

Symptoms of a panic attack can be a combination of any of these symptoms:

  • chest pains
  • nausea
  • breathlessness
  • pounding heartbeat
  • fear of dying
  • sweating
  • dizziness
  • trembling or shaking
  • choking sensations
  • numbness
  • headache
  • exhaustion
  • terror.

Research suggests at least 1 in 10 people experience occasional panic attacks, which are usually triggered by a stressful event, or situation. However, people suffering with panic disorder can have attacks on a regular and recurring basis.

Treatment for Panic Attacks

Hypnotherapy can help to alleviate anxiety by direct suggestion and by behavioural training. It can be used to:

  • desensitize the sufferer from certain stressors
  • help take back control by recognising and regulating previously inappropriate responses
  • teach new ways to relax
  • break habitual behaviours
  • remove anxiety triggers
  • dissociate the sufferer from anxiety causing problems.

I'm so pleased that you are thinking of using Hypnotherapy to help you overcome some problems in your life. To book a Free Initial Consultation or to find out more please either call or email me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can!
